The Odyssey Performance Task

Your Task: Create a Travel Brochure/Booklet for Odysseus’s travels. You can pretend it is a cruise, but make sure you cover every stop Odysseus makes from Troy to Ithaca, all ten of them. Please include detailed descriptions and pictures of the “attractions” each place has to offer. Base your descriptions on facts but, at the same time, let your imagination soar. Each episode should have a separate paragraph, including two appositives, two participles, and two prepositions. Make sure your product resembles a real brochure.

Organizing Your Selling Points
Think of your brochure as a book. It tells a story about your cruise. Your brochure should have a beginning, middle and an end. And just like a book, most people will look at the front cover, back cover, and maybe even flip through the pages to see if it’s worth reading.
Complete, Accurate and Thorough Information
Before you start hammering away at the copy of your brochure, take the time to really think about the information you want to include. Open up most brochures and you’ll find lots of words. That’s because brochures need to contain as much information as possible. Someone who is interested in your product will read every word of your brochure. However, your prospect will feed their paper shredder if you’re not providing them with useful information – or worse – your copy is dull.

You will need to write a one paragraph (five sentence) summary of each of the chapters in The Lord of the Flies. The total word count for the assignment should be AT LEAST 1000 words, and the assignment should be free of content, spelling and grammar errors. The base grade for the assignment is the word count divided by 10. Thus, a 1000 word essay would earn a 100%, an 876 word essay would earn an 87.6%, etc. Additionally, each content/spelling/grammar error will reduce the grade by 10 points.
